This new work builds upon Hollis Hammonds’ practice of creating landscapes through layering, accumulation, and the recombination of modular visual elements. The original drawing is composed of multiple forest layers, terrain features, and embedded details that can be separated, expanded, and reconfigured while maintaining the integrity of the larger environment.
For the DFW installation, drawing elements will be digitally redistributed across the panoramic format of the Terminal C baggage claim screens. Forest layers will be extended and repeated across the larger digital canvas, allowing the landscape to unfold beyond the boundaries of the original composition while creating a greater sense of depth and immersion.
Joel Zika’s animation practice introduces movement, atmosphere, and discovery to the environment. Luminous particles meander organically through the layered forest, illuminating hidden traces, revealing subtle details, and drawing attention to pathways, textures, and remnants of past journeys embedded within the landscape.
Together, the artists transform the drawing into a seamless looping animation that invites travelers into a contemplative world of wonder and discovery, where each passage of light reveals something new.
